Yet another plugin blog post?
I spend a fair amount of my time searching for existing WordPress plugins to support client requests on development work. Little point reinventing the wheel, when another developer has invested so much of their own time and effort building a plugin to do exactly? what I need it to do! Right?! Absolutely.
So I thought it only fair to those developers for me to share some of my real world experience in using some of these plugins, and how they helped save the day. So onto the plugins…
Bear with me whilst this page evolves!
Excerpt from WordPress Plugin Directory: Imsanity automatically resizes huge image uploads. Are contributors uploading huge photos? Tired of manually scaling? Imsanity to the rescue!
So why did I use it, or recommend it?! It just works, which is what I love about any decent plugin. Just install it and it’s automatically going to limit (by reducing) the size of the images users upload. As well as the option to search through your existing media library and shrink everything down. 144 files in less than 5mins. So why did I use it, well a customer came to me complaining that a page on their website was loading slowly. A quick look revealed that they had around a dozen images loading, and the average file size was around 6MB… need I say more..
Top tips for selecting plugins
- Has the plugin been updated recently?
- Has it been updated since it’s release?
- Does it work with the current release of WP?
- Is the support forum healthy?
- Does it come with good documentation?
